Maria Leijerstam - First person to cycle to the South Pole visits Stebonheath

Maria Leijerstam, who in 2015 became the first person to cycle to the South Pole, visited Stebonheath School to talk to our pupils about her world record.

The adventure took 4 years to plan and finance and she completed it unaided. Maria is a truly inspirational person and her recount of her world record was met with awe by our pupils.

Maria's visit was made possible because of Alfie Rees (Y6), who took part in one of Maria's multi-adventure Burn Series events at Margam Park. Maria was so inspired by Alfie that she asked to come to Stebonheath to talk to our children.
